Wally Mayo

Wallace H. Mayo has more than 40 years of experience conducting Christian music through his service in churches in Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, and Virginia. As an experienced arranger, he has provided instrumental and choral arrangements for his churches over the years, and has had works accepted by four publishers.

Wallace earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL (1971), where he was named a Presser Foundation Scholar and became an accomplished pianist under the instruction of head piano professor, James Streem. While at FSU, he also sharpened his choral conducting skills under the leadership of Clayton H. Krehbiel, the Director of Choral Activities and a former assistant conductor of the Robert Shaw Chorale.

Mayo completed post-graduate work at the College of Music Business at Belmont University in Nashville, TN (1978), where he studied music publishing and copyright law. He also attained a Master of Arts degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY (1985), and a Master of Music degree in Music Performance from Florida State University (1995).

Over the years, Wallace has led seminars and workshops at various conferences on topics such as MIDI and synthesizer use in worship and computer scoring. He has also conducted workshops for the Florida Baptist Convention and served as a consultant for their music department throughout the 1990s. Mayo retired in May 2019 after 22 years of service as Minister of Music at Melrose Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA. He and his wife reside in Roanoke and continue to serve the Lord with their musical gifts.
