Valerie Lorimer

Valerie is a Chicago-based composer, pianist and fine artist. Whether playing piano, composing music or creating a work of art, her journey has been one of creativity. An established composer of solo and choral repertoire, her music has delighted audiences in the United States and abroad. Valerie has an undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and a Masters Degree in Piano Accompanying from Northwestern University. She is a valued musical collaborator with local ensembles, instrumentalists and singers and has collaborated with notable organizations such as the Chicago Opera Theatre and Chicago Symphony Chorus. Valerie is currently Collaborative Pianist for Downers Grove North High School Fine Arts Department where she accompanies choirs, and individual vocalists and instrumentalists. Valerie remains inspired by the wide range of poetry that crosses the boundaries of time. She relishes the opportunity to live a creative life daily whether it’s bringing together words and music in new compositions or creating artwork that “sings” on paper or canvas. Valerie works in a variety of mediums including ink and acrylic. She derives inspiration from nature, architecture, music, theater and travel.
